Care and Support Services

Providing a more integrated and convenient treatment process for students.

University of Virginia’s Care and Support Services (CASS) Program is relocating to the 4th floor of the Student Health and Wellness Center (SHWC) Building to enhance integration with other student care services. Private offices line the building's exterior, creating a cozy, living room-like collaborative space at the center. The suite also includes various meeting rooms, a new home for the UVA Community Food that support student productivity and well-being.

APPROACH

Atmospheric hues of blue and pink, like those seen in a sunset, are the foundation of the palette and create a calming, nurturing space. Private offices wrap around the exterior of the building, carving out an open collaborative area in the middle of the suite for use by both students and staff. This strategy creates a cozy living room type feel off the reception area that supports the importance of providing comfortable and secure space for students in need.

In addition to a handful of various sized meeting rooms, the UVA Community Food Pantry, a program that provides food and supplies to students at discounted prices, finds its new home next to the CASS suite. On the opposite side of the office space, a new student lounge area is situated in the corner of the building with scenic views of the surrounding landscape. With a variety of workspace types and an abundance of natural light, the lounge provides students with space to be productive, engaged, and focused.
