APPROACH
The design of Cedar Hall completes a triangle shaped residential section of campus adjacent to a main campus thoroughfare. The scale of the development is shaped to maintain a welcoming residential campus experience. Limiting the scale of development to three stories plus a fully occupied attic story maintains a comfortable residential feel. A new triangular courtyard becomes the unifying landscape space. The entry portal at the apex of the wedge-shaped building will welcome students and visitors into the residential courtyard.
The residence hall has a variety of spaces to support all facets of student life. These shared and flexible social and study spaces integrate living & learning promoting a strong sense of community among residents and staff while also giving students choice regarding their environment and unique needs. Each floor features social lounges where students are able to eat, play games, and gather, with a kitchen, dining zone, and gathering area delineated by a wood ceiling feature creating two separate yet connected spaces.
