As a digital marketing consultant, Authentic required a vibrant, innovative space that reflected their workplace culture and collaborative spirit.
Authentic had outgrown their accommodations in the West End of Richmond and was ready to seek a new home that would enable greater collaboration and inspire their team. Working with a historic tax credit consultant, smbw helped convert the warehouse to office space, showcasing the original wood columns and planked ceiling.

APPROACH
To facilitate collaboration and impromptu conversations, we created a work/lounge meeting hub as the heart of the office. This included an open bar table with connectivity to TVs along a shared meeting wall, a café and kitchen space, and a lounge zone. A variety of other team meeting and lounge spaces are located along the perimeter walls to accommodate individual department meetings. Each enclosed huddle room is themed to represent Authentic’s major markets.
MEASURING OUTCOMES
The amphitheater feature has created opportunities for Authentic to open their space up to the community, including meetups and conferences with groups that share their values and community interests, including CodeRVA and Women Who Code. Since being in the space, there’s been a noticeable change in employee satisfaction, with staff and clients alike spending more time in the office, utilizing the café bar and the amphitheater.
